Guide for Drilling Holes

Step 1

Before using these instruction it is recommended to read this guide for drilling holes, which shows how to drill holes on steel beams and other parts needed for this CNC machine.

📘

Tools needed for drilling holes:

  • Ruler
  • Carpenter's ruler
  • Scribe for marking lines
  • Center punch
  • Hammer
  • 8, 6, and 4 mm drills

Step 2

Use the ruler to measure the desired distance from reference point to the center of the hole, in both X and Y axis.

Step 3

Mark the center of the hole on the top surface using a center punch and a hammer. First use little force to check if the center punch is positioned correctly. With a stronger punch then make a dent that will serve as a guide for drilling. Repeat the step for the bottom surface.

Step 4

For the 8 mm diameter holes we must do some pre-drilling with smaller drills first. The drilling is performed in stages on the drill press.

🚧

Position the piece rectangular to the drilling head

Before drilling make sure that the beam is rectangular to the drilling head.

Step 5

Start with the 4 mm holes, first drill the hole through the top surface then through the bottom one.

Step 6

Continue with drilling the 6 mm holes. Again, first drill the hole through the top surface then through the bottom one.

Step 7

Finish with the 8 mm holes, first through the top surface and then through the bottom one.
